Khaled bows to Faisal

imageBahrain's Khaled Almosawi bowed out of the Gulf Youth Cup following a 2-6 1-6 defeat to Faisal Albastaki of the UAE yesterday.

In the quarter final match, the 15 year old Bahraini fell to his UAE opponent who bagged a comfortable victory to book a berth in the semi final of the tournament, being held at the Bahrain Tennis Federation Centre in Isa Town. Albastaki will play today his semi final match against compatriot Rashid Alfalasi who edged past Kuwaiti rival Mansour Buhamad 6-2 4-6 6-3 in a highly competitive match.

The Kuwaitis emerged winners in the other quarter finals as Mohamed Alshati defeated compatriot Abdulla Buhamad 7-6(4) 6-2 to setup his semi final clash with Kuwait's Abdulrahman Alawadhi who beat Abdulhameed Juma, also of Kuwait 6-1 6-2.

In the under 14 boys section, top seed Kuwaiti Nassr Alobaidli lived up to expectations by reaching the semi final with a comfortable 6-0 6-1 win over Abdulla Ahli of the UAE. Alobaidli will now play against Qatari Mubarak Zayed, the tournament's fifth seed, who defeated fourth seed Bader Alomran of Saudi Arabia 6-4 6-0.

The remaining two quarter final saw unseeded player Abdullatif Alrajeh of Saudi Arabia continue his impressive run with a stunning tough 7-5 3-6 6-2 victory over seventh seed Majed Bushaqer of the UAE. Alrajeh will play in the semi final against second seeded Kuwaiti Abdulhameed Alshati, who edged past unseeded Abdulrahman Alhareb of Qatar 7-6(5) 6-4 in a marathon tie.

Three matches were also played yesterdayin the under 18 girls section where Bahrain's Hadeel Ali continued her winning run with a 6-0 6-0 victory over compatriot Marwa Mohamed. It was the second successive win for Hadeel who kicked off her campaign in this round robin competition with easy 6-0 6-1 win over Oman's Aza Alhanaei.

Other games saw Qatari Ola Basel defeat Malak Alfardan of Bahrain 6-0 6-0, while Fatma Alnabhani of Oman followed suit with an identical 6-0 6-0 win over Aza Alhanaei for her second straight victory to share the lead with Hadeel.
