Zayed and Alhareb triumph

imageQatar's Mubarak Zayed and Abdulrahman Alhareb last night notched the under 14 boys doubles title of the Gulf Youth Cup, beating Saudi Arabia's Bader Alomran and Abdullatif Alrajeh 6-0 6-3 at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts in Isa Town.

In a closely-fought final, the unseeded Qatari pair maintained their remarkable run in the tournament with another astonishing victory against their opponents whom were seeded fourth.

In the under 14 boys singles semi final, two seeds Nasser Alobaidli of Kuwait and his compatriot Abdulhameed Alshati lived up to expectations to setup their final clash, scheduled for today. Nasser recorded a tough 7-5 7-5 victory over fifth seed Qatari Mubarak Zayed and Abdulhameed followed suit, defeating unseeded Abdullatif Alrajeh of Saudi Arabia 6-2 6-3.

The Kuwaitis continued to rule the day as they also reached the final of the under 18 boys singles. Seventh seed Kuwaiti Abdulrahman Alawadhi, who stunned top seed compatriot Abdulhameed Juma 6-1 6-2 in the quarter finals, maintained his impressive run with a come from behind 3-6 6-4 6-4 victory over fifth seed Faisal Alfalasi of the UAE.

Mohamed Alshati, who is seeded sixth in the tournament, also faced tough challenge from second seeded UAE opponent Faisal Albastaki whom he beat 7-6(4) 3-6 6-4.

Meanwhile, Fatima Janahi of the UAE and Qatar's Ola Basel will clash today in the last and deciding match of the under 14 girls singles category commencing at 4pm. Both players have been dominent in this round robin tournament, winning all their four matches. Fatima outplayed Qatari opponent Fatima Alali 6-0 6-0 while Ola eased past compatriot Shouq Adel 6-1 6-0.
