Summer Camp announced

BTF technical committee have announced today the 2009 tennis camp, open for children of all nationalities and aged 6-12. The first term starting Saturday 20 June till Wednesday 15 July, while the second term will run from Saturday 18 July till Wednesday 12 August.

The camp is scheduled for 3 days a week Saturday, Monday and Wednesday from 5:00pm - 6:30pm at BTF Tennis Centre in University of Bahrain, Isa Town.

Workshop for Coaches Set

ImageBahrain's national tennis team coaches will today begin a coaching workshop in cooperation with the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.

Two coaches from the world renowned US based tennis school will be facilitating the event, which will run until Tuesday at the BTF Tennis Centre in the University of Bahrain, Isa Town. The long time Bollettieri coaches are Mark Dalzell and Hassan Chaouqi. They arrived in the kingdom this week.

BTF director Mohammed Sanad yesterday met the coaches who will be taking part in the programme and discussed with them the goals and benefits of learning from the visiting American tennis consultants.

Each day will feature morning and evening sessions. The morning will comprise the theoretical part of the programme while the afternoon will feature the practical application.

Sanad is also expected to discuss with the Bollettieri representatives on ways to further increase cooperation.

   

Zayed and Alhareb triumph

imageQatar's Mubarak Zayed and Abdulrahman Alhareb last night notched the under 14 boys doubles title of the Gulf Youth Cup, beating Saudi Arabia's Bader Alomran and Abdullatif Alrajeh 6-0 6-3 at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts in Isa Town.

In a closely-fought final, the unseeded Qatari pair maintained their remarkable run in the tournament with another astonishing victory against their opponents whom were seeded fourth.

In the under 14 boys singles semi final, two seeds Nasser Alobaidli of Kuwait and his compatriot Abdulhameed Alshati lived up to expectations to setup their final clash, scheduled for today. Nasser recorded a tough 7-5 7-5 victory over fifth seed Qatari Mubarak Zayed and Abdulhameed followed suit, defeating unseeded Abdullatif Alrajeh of Saudi Arabia 6-2 6-3.

The Kuwaitis continued to rule the day as they also reached the final of the under 18 boys singles. Seventh seed Kuwaiti Abdulrahman Alawadhi, who stunned top seed compatriot Abdulhameed Juma 6-1 6-2 in the quarter finals, maintained his impressive run with a come from behind 3-6 6-4 6-4 victory over fifth seed Faisal Alfalasi of the UAE.

Mohamed Alshati, who is seeded sixth in the tournament, also faced tough challenge from second seeded UAE opponent Faisal Albastaki whom he beat 7-6(4) 3-6 6-4.

Meanwhile, Fatima Janahi of the UAE and Qatar's Ola Basel will clash today in the last and deciding match of the under 14 girls singles category commencing at 4pm. Both players have been dominent in this round robin tournament, winning all their four matches. Fatima outplayed Qatari opponent Fatima Alali 6-0 6-0 while Ola eased past compatriot Shouq Adel 6-1 6-0.
